Going Retro

These are strange times. 2020 Covid-19 Lockdown has turned everything upside down and made us re-think how and why we are doing things. We are working and spending so much more time in our homes. So it’s been a good time to work on home projects .

I’m sharing a quick snap of our own lockdown home renovation project. it’s not a styled shot and there are no stools yet. Last week I finished this retro-fit of our solid ash breakfast bar to an existing kitchen bench in our home. The space is also now a work area for the owners (us) The original bench was clad in chocolate laminate (that’s the glamorous name for dark brown). We re-clad the old bench in white and I designed the bench with a cut in detail to tie the new and old together. The Ash has some strong dark streaks in it and the satin finish shows the natural character up beautifully. I’m super happy with the result.

We have been putting our own renovation off for years and this Lockdown seemed like the perfect time. Vacation funds on hold + time+ working in a dark worn out living room=time to tick off our list of projects that had built up. This enforced period of working from home has been the perfect motivation to upgrade the spaces that we spend so much time in. We finished yesterday and it’s a joy to be in.

Now I’m off to design some stools for our new breakfast bar.
